Salvaged Table Settings

Salvaged Table Settings

On May 9, 2009, Stephenie and Mark claimed each other as husband and wife, but they also reclaimed pieces of barn wood to use as a stylish accent for their eco-friendly reception -- coincidence? I think not! A majority of the reclaimed barn wood was used as a home board for the table numbers, which were previously owned house numbers Stephenie and Mark found at salvage shops (image 1).   The wood was also used to make their cake stand, which complemented their cake beautifully because the icing resembled a wooden texture(image 2).  Their caterer loved the reclaimed barn wood details so much, he purchased them and continues to rent the items out for other events.  "It's the gift that keeps on giving and I cannot think of anything more sustainable than that," admits Stephenie.

Other key elements to their reclaimed barn wood table settings included old coffee beans which could after be ground and used as fertilizer (image 3), rented vases, borrowed antique drawers for toiletries in the restrooms, and soy candles purchased off craigslist.  "In general, anytime you can use something you already own or can borrow, you should go for it," says Stephenie, "it's love in a time of salvage."
