We recently checked in with Justin Brandreth Potter, founder and owner of Nettleton Hollow, and asked him to share his top picks for sustainable centerpieces. Here is what he had to say:
Grapewood - These are recycled from commercial vineyards, which tear out the old vines as they become less productive and are typically burned. Grapewood is one of our favorite products – you can create some amazing arrangements with a few of them clustered together.
Date Palm Branches - These are a by-product of the California fruit industry. These come from Date Palms as the name suggests – this branches are what’s left over after all the dates have been stripped off.
Banana Stems - These are yet another by-product of fruit production that would otherwise be discarded.
If you're seeking inspiration, check out Justin's blog, where he shares DIY tips for beautiful branch centerpieces. We discovered LD Design there, an Austin-based eco botanical shop. Principal Designer Lauren Dolinsky created the botanical sculptures featured in this story using grapewood from Nettleton Hollow.
